The technique of layered lacquer originates in Taichung and was refined by Mr. Lai Kao-shan, the founder of the local lacquerware brand KOUSAN CRAFT . He improved upon the traditional carving red lacquer technique to create layered lacquer ornaments. These pieces, with their unique patterns and gem-like, bright gloss, successfully entered the Japanese export market in the 1960s and became known as "Lacquer Stone" (T-STONE). The ANOUKS brand has restructured the Kōzan-ling (KOUSAN) name and reimagined the layered lacquer technique, shaping the contemporary wearable potential of lacquerware.
