Oni no Nembutsu is a typical motif in Otsu-e, a people’s popular illustration-souvenir from the Edo period. Here, the oni is dressed like a monk, and is reciting Buddhist prayer.
There are diverse interpretations of this motif, but we like to think that it represents the idea that even oni can become good through Buddhism practice.
