This leather pin brooch is modeled after beloved Tottori folk toy shop Yanagiya’s Kirin Jishi mask. The Kirin Jishi (literally qilin-lion), is a mythical animal with a long, golden face and a single horn on its forehead, based on the mythical Chinese qilin. In Tottori, dancers perform a lion dance dressed as the Kirin Jishi to welcome good health and fortune. As its eyes are depicted closed, it also has the nickname “sleepy lion.”
