The design of this card case is made through a technique called kasuri weaving. Before dyeing, artisans tie-off sections of the individal threads at measured intervals, to prevent the dye from being absorbed accross the whole thread, which results in bicolor or multicolor threads. The threads are then woven together to create a carefully-planned pattern, which has a slightly blurred look. The term kasuri comes from the Japanese word for "blur."
