Tu Xing Studio

Established in 2014, Tu Xing Studio is the collaborative endeavour of ceramicist Huang Hong-yu and visual artist Peng Yi-xuan. Born from a simple desire to blend fine functional ware with evocative visual storytelling, the studio has evolved into a vital centre for experimental ceramics in Tainan. Their headquarters integrates a soil laboratory, a dedicated teaching space, and "Soil Space"—a gallery for contemporary research and cross-media exchange.

Central to their practice is the "Soil Plan", an extensive research project dedicated to documenting the unique characteristics of local Taiwanese soils. By inviting collaborations, Huang and Peng build a shared knowledge base of the island’s diverse geological conditions. From gathering raw earth to orchestrating international exhibitions, the founders dedicatedly preserve the "material intelligence" of the land. Whether through unique art pieces or meticulous technical developments, Tu Xing Studio ensures that every creation carries a singular, enduring story of the soil.
