Zangzhi Studio is a resident workshop at the Craft Research and Development Center in Caotun, Nantou, Taiwan. Formed by bamboo weaving artisans with shared goals, it focuses on technical teaching and cultural promotion of bamboo craft and Lacquerware with woven body. CHIEN JIA-YI is the studio’s principal lead.
Since 2016, CHIEN JIA-YI has apprenticed under LI JUNG-LIEH, a preserver of Taiwan’s Important Traditional Craft of bamboo Lacquerware with woven body. This craft uses a woven bamboo base with lacquer-clay filling, preserving woven patterns and natural bamboo texture while improving durability and usability, expressing Taiwanese values of cherishing objects, harmony with nature, simplicity, and sustainability.
