KousanCraft was founded in 1946 by Mr. Lai Gao-shan and has been passed down through three generations. It is currently operated by the third generation, Lai Hsin-yu. From a mingei perspective, the workshop is dedicated to promoting lacquer craftsmanship by creating lacquerware designed for everyday use. Through daily interaction, users are invited to engage all five senses and experience the warmth, texture, and beauty of lacquer.
“Seeing the heart through use” has always been KousanCraft core philosophy. The workshop believes that when an object is used, an emotional connection is formed between the maker and the user, allowing the care invested in its creation to be transformed into a sense of intimacy, warmth, and companionship in everyday life.
